Analsying the end scene through Andrew Sarris's auteur theory, shows Michael Curtiz to not wholly conform to this idea of auteur ship, more so conforming to the Hollywood Studio system and its conventions. It can be argued that an interior meaning is presented in this final scene, as Rick moves from an isolationist ideology to a more global one, mimicking America's move in ideology as they entered the war in late 1941. This ideology is presented through cinematography, starting with a track in shot to medium close up on a side profile with Ilsa and Rick. This sequence also uses over the shoulders
