. Orginally Lucas would direct Apocalayspe now and Milius would right it
. Influenced by Milius affinity for classic literature like Homers Odyssey and Dante's Inferno
. Milius imagined Wagner and the Doors in the sound track
. Wagner for heli attack scene was inspired by true events
. The Doors wrote several songs about the madness of war
. Orignally Milius had Kurtz as a huge Jim Morrison fan
. M + G Lucas wanted to shoot a pseudo - documentary shot on location in 16mm black and white inspired by realism of 'The Battle of Algiers' and 'The Anderson Platoon'
. Wanted to use a mixture of scripted and improvised scenes of performers interacting with real soldiers and events
. Lucas abandend the project in 1977 to direct star wars
. Coppola radically changed the approach to the film
. Milius + Copp had conflicting creative visions

Apocalyspe now 40 years later - legacy
. Met mixed reviews originally
. Lack of perspective from the vietnamese side
. In the Iraq war they used the Wagner thing, showing glorification
. its not 40 years old, its 40 years in the making as Coppola keeps rereleasing the ending - other rat pack directors do this as well, as their pushed by the studio's to release the original film whether they're happy with it
